Sea Palling village
Sea Palling beach has a coveted Blue Flag. It is a hubbub on sunny summer weekends (lots of parking) but quiet on winter weekends. You can walk on sand for miles in either direction but be mindful of the tide tables. The village boasts an amusement arcade, an ice cream parlour, a village shop and Post Office. And Barry and Janet can be found in Chapel Road where they sell fresh crab on ‘fishing weather’ days. And there is a butcher and farm shop within a couple of miles.
The village has a significant seafaring history, dominated by shipwrecks and heroism on the waves. It was a substantial victim of the great North Sea surge of 1953. A multi-million pound venture to construct the great reefs to protect against flood and coastal erosion now leaves Sea Palling safe in its own microclimate and charming time-warp. Below the volunteer lifeboat station you will find a seawater lagoon, a playground for wild swimmers and paddle boarders alike. Inland are the wonderful wetlands of the Norfolk Broads, a Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve five miles away at Hickling. Nearby is Waxham with one of the largest 16th-century tithe barns in the country. It is a good place for dog walking in the dunes, but slight warning, beware of adders in the summer.
